    Collapse overview
Dr. Angels Almenar is a stem cell neurobiologist interested in understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders, and in leveraging this knowledge to develop novel therapeutic strategies. She is an Assistant Professor at the University of California, San Diego, where her research focuses on human stem cell–based models of brain disease.
Her scientific interests include glial biology, neuroimmune interactions, and gene regulation in the developing and aging brain. Her work uses human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)–derived neurons, neural organoids, astrocytes, and microglia, combined with genome editing and multi-omics approaches, to dissect disease mechanisms and to test proof-of-principle therapeutic strategies. Current projects in her lab investigate how genetic risk factors impact neuronal and glial function in neurodevelopmental disorders and Alzheimer’s disease, and whether targeted genetic or molecular interventions can restore neuronal dysfunction.

Altmetrics Details PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
