    Biography

    Dr. Wetherell earned a B.A. at Yale and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with specialization in aging at the University of Southern California. After a geropsychology internship at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at UCSD’s Advanced Center for Interventions and Services Research in Geriatric Mental Health. She has been a member of the UCSD faculty since 2003.

    Research Interests

    Dr. Wetherell’s research, funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and the Department of Veterans Affairs, involves clinical trials of combined pharmacotherapy and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for geriatric generalized anxiety disorder and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for chronic pain.

    Clinical Focus

    Dr. Wetherell holds a position as Staff Psychologist in the VA San Diego Healthcare System Home-Based Primary Care program, which provides comprehensive, interdisciplinary primary care services in the homes of older veterans with chronic and disabling disease. HBPC targets veterans in advanced stages of chronic disease, particularly those at high risk of recurrent hospitalization or nursing home placement.
