Dr. Anthony Perricone is a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon who specializes in lung transplantation, surgery for tumors of the lung and mediastinum, coronary artery bypass surgery, heart valve repair and replacement, and other adult cardiac surgeries. He also performs video assisted thoracoscopy procedures and specialized techniques for treating hyperhidrosis
Dr. Perricone received his advanced fellowship training in cardiothoracic surgery here at UC San Diego. He is certified by both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
Dr. Anthony Perricone is Professor of Surgery/Cardiothoracic Surgery and Surgical Director of the Lung Transplant Program at UC San Diego. As a member of the UC San Diego Heart and Lung Transplant Team, he works with cardiologists, other surgeons, and pulmonologists on lung and heart-lung transplant surgeries.
Dr. Perricone is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.
Dr. Perricone’s research at UC San Diego includes lung cancer studies that focus on improving surgical treatment methods and minimizing the need for invasive surgery. In one project, Dr. Perricone is investigating the use of a minimally invasive technique for determining whether further surgery is needed when a patient with lung cancer has enlarged mediastinal lymph nodes. The technique utilizes endoscopic ultrasound and fine-needle aspiration of the enlarged lymph nodes.
