Dr Rahul Nene grew up in Kenya, where he lived until the age of 14. He received his undergraduate education at Brown University. He attended the University of California San Diego School of Medicine, where he was enrolled in the Medical Scientist Training Program. He simultaneously received his medical degree and earned his PhD in Biomedical Sciences, with a thesis focused on cancer genetics and DNA repair mechanisms. He stayed in San Diego for his residency training in Emergency Medicine at UCSD and was awarded a Distinction in Academics in his final year. He is a staff physician at UCSD and also works at the satellite site at El Centro Regional Medical Center, where he serves as the Research Director for the Emergency Department. His research interests include oncologic emergencies, opioid use disorder, and rural health disparities. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, traveling, craft beer, and board games.
