Overview I am an emeritus professor at the UCSD School of Medicine and an experienced researcher in cardiovascular physiology and pharmacology (cyclic nucleotide metabolism, subcellular compartmentation of signaling) and an experienced reviewer of research and training grants in the US and Mexico. I have served as an advisor to the CA Air Resources Board, as chair of the Biomedical Sciences Ph.D. Program, and as mentor for the Industry-UC Research Partnership Fellowship. I am the founding director of the UCSD Pharmacology Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship program (to place under-represented students in research labs and recruit them to grad school), an NIH-funded research techniques course in physiology and pharmacology, and the San Diego IRACDA Program (Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Award, a NIGMS-funded postdoctoral program with a minority emphasis). Currently: My chief academic activity is as editor-in-chief of the major textbook in my field, Goodman and Gilman’s The Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics, along with maintaining a webpage based on the book and preparing a student version, Goodman and Gilman’s Manual of Pharmacology and Therapeutics and aiding development of the Goodman & Gilman Workbook and Casebook. I serve on the advisory board for post-baccalaureate programs at Cal State University Los Angeles and am active in organizations that combat global warming and promote environmental health and economic justice.

Altmetrics Details
PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media.
(Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.)
Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication.
Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication.
Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.)
Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
