CO-CREATE-Ex: Community-engaged Optimization of COVID-19 Rapid Evaluation And TEsting Experiences NIH/NIMHD U01MD018308-01Nov 1, 2022 - Oct 31, 2027 Role: MPI Description: In our Phase I RADx-UP project, UC San Diego partnered with San Ysidro Health, a federally qualified health center, and the Global Action Research Center, a social change organization, to co-create and demonstrate the impact of a PCR-based COVID-19 testing program in San Ysidro, one of the most impacted areas from COVID-19 in San Diego County. To date, we have tested >10,000 community members (92% Latino) and received requests to scale-out the testing program to additional primary care clinic sites. In this Phase III proposal, we will extend work with our Phase I community and clinical partners to refine, specify, implement, and evaluate an implementation strategy bundle that optimizes COVID-19 testing, expanding beyond current PCR testing to FDA-authorized COVID-19 rapid antigen testing. |

Integration and Evaluation of the cMHQ, a Novel Transdiagnostic Mental Assessment in Clinical Pediatric Practice NIH R44MH127999Jul 16, 2021 - Aug 31, 2026 Role: MPI Description: Sapien Health has developed the pediatric Mental Health Quotient – 10 (MHQ-10) mental health triage tool and the Clinical Mental Health Quotient (cMHQ), which, through a single compact assessment, captures a comprehensive symptom profile, positive/protective life factors, lifestyle, life traumas and adversities to generate a vetted clinician report that includes a score of their aggregate mental wellbeing and guidance to the clinician that enhance opportunities for preventative care and effective choice of treatment. Successful implementation of any new assessment within a hospital or clinic depends crucially on how it is embedded in the workflow and the consequent patient and clinician experience such as when and how patients are presented the assessment, how they are encouraged to complete the assessments, when and how doctors are presented the reports, and how they are guided to use the reports during the appointment. In this Phase II SBIR we will use an innovative, participatory implementation research method of co-design (brainwriting premortem) to develop a powerful workflow for integration of the pediatric MHQ suite within primary care and behavioral healthcare at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego and evaluate its feasibility, acceptability and perceived patient and clinician benefits. |
