Chaitanya Malladi, MD is a clinical cardiac electrophysiology fellow at UC San Diego Health. He trained in bioengineering at Caltech, earned his medical degree at UC San Diego, completed internal medicine residency at UT Southwestern, and completed cardiovascular medicine fellowship at UC San Diego.

His current research spans six areas. The first is cardiac myosin inhibition, atrial fibrillation, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The second is implantable loop recorders for long-term monitoring in atrial fibrillation. The third is vagus nerve stimulation in cardiac arrhythmias. The fourth is novel pulsed field ablation technology. The fifth is vascular access and closure devices in contemporary electrophysiology. The sixth is leadless pacemaker battery optimization.

He serves as study lead on two investigator-initiated studies at UC San Diego. The first is an ongoing study evaluating implantable loop recorders for detecting recurrent atrial fibrillation in patients with new-onset atrial fibrillation during acute illness. The second, now completed, was an early feasibility trial of non-invasive transauricular vagus nerve stimulation for suppression of premature ventricular contractions.

His published work addresses antiarrhythmic drug therapy during the post-ablation blanking period, catheter ablation outcomes in patients with heart failure, and the comparative safety and efficacy of pulsed field ablation versus thermal energy ablation.

His clinical interests include catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation and complex arrhythmias, cardiac implantable electronic device implantation and management, and evaluation of bradycardia and conduction disease.
