    Dr. Young is a Professor of Academic General Pediatrics in the UCSD Department of Pediatrics and is the Division Chief of Academic General Pediatrics, Newborn Medicine and Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics. She is the Martin T Stein Endowed Chair of Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics. She also holds a joint position within the UCSD School of Public Health. She is also a Medical Advisor at the CDC National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Disease, Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion/Surveillance Branch. Her focus is on refugee, immigrant and migrant health; this includes: increasing the use of evidence-based screening guidelines based on geographic exposure risks; improvement of EHRs to increase appropriate medical screening; linkage to and retention in care; legal status as a social determinant of health; medical forensic asylum evaluations and medical legal partnerships; health systems language barriers; improving access to care for immigrant communities; unaccompanied immigrant children and child rights; cultural practices in immigrant communities. She teaches and mentors medical students, residents, and fellows. She speaks Spanish and French.
