Dr. Howard Tung received his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School in 1985 and completed his neurosurgery residency training at the University of Southern California in 1992. He initially served on the faculty at Scripps Clinic and Scripps Research Foundation in San Diego and subsequently joined the faculty at UCSD in 1997. Dr. Tung currently serves as the neurosurgery section chief at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.

In the past Dr. Tung has serves as Secretary-Treasurer for the San Diego Academy of Neurological Surgeons as well as Local Arrangements Chairman for the Congress of Neurological Surgeons annual meeting. He is an active member of the CNS and AANS, and is the author of numerous articles in leading neurosurgical journals. His special interests are in pediatric neurosurgery and gamma knife treatment of central nervous system disorders.
