    Dr. Eva Tovar Hirashima was born and raised in Mexico City. After earning an MD from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, she received a Master in Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley. Upon concluding her graduate studies she went back to Mexico City where she pursued a four-year residency in internal medicine. She moved to Boston, MA for her emergency medicine training joining the Harvard-Affiliated Emergency Residency program. During her residency, she conducted qualitative research to understand the health challenges faced by migrants (primarily of Central American origin) traveling through Mexico, her work led to the establishment of a free health clinic in Mexico City. She recently completed an Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship at the University of Maryland. Throughout her fellowship she worked in a community hospital in rural Maryland where she served as the emergency ultrasound director. Her academic interests are: POCUS in resource limited settings, knowledge-transfer, and migrant/border health. Her outside interests include: learning how to surf, reading, cooking, and searching for the perfect hammock.
