    Biography
    Dr. Myers received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the UCSD/SDSU Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology and completed his training at the Brown University Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies. He has been a member of the UCSD Department of Psychiatry and a faculty member of the UCSD/SDSU Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology since 1994. Dr. Myers is a psychologist at the VA San Diego Healthcare System and since 2010 has served as the Deputy Director of the VA National Tobacco Cessation Clinical Resource Center. He is author on over 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers and has been the Principal Investigator on NIH and state-funded research awards.
    Research Interests
    Dr. Myers’s program of research has examined various aspects of tobacco use, with a particular interest in informing interventions for high risk populations. His current work focuses on approaches to enhancing utilization of evidence based tobacco treatment. The populations investigated in Dr. Myers’s studies have included teens in treatment for alcohol and other drug disorders, high school adolescents, college students, tobacco users with psychiatric disorders and military veterans enrolled in the Veterans Health Administration.
    Clinical Focus
    Dr. Myers is Lead Clinician for Tobacco use Cessation for the Veterans Affairs San Diego Healthcare System and Deputy Director of the VA National Tobacco Cessation Clinical Resource Center. He also manages the VA San Diego Tobacco Treatment Consult Clinic which focuses on engaging tobacco users in evidence based treatment. Treatment services include motivational interventions, individual and group treatments for tobacco using veterans.
