      The research in Dr. Guan’s laboratory focuses on two topics, the TSC-mTOR pathway and the hippo-YAP pathway. The TSC-mTOR pathway plays a major role in cell growth regulation and dysregulation of this pathway has been frequently observed in human cancers. Studies from the Guan lab have contributed to the mTOR signaling network. Current research includes mTOR regulation by nutrient signals and stress. Study from the Guan lab has also revealed the mechanism of the YAP oncoprotein regulation by the Hippo tumor suppressor pathway, which controls tissue homeostasis, organ size control, and tumorigenesis. Recent observations show that the Hippo-YAP pathway is dynamically regulated by G-protein coupled receptor signaling.
