    Dr. Schmidt has retired effective August 31, 2015. He specialized in caring for patients who have cancer of the prostate. He is internationally known for his research in treatments for prostate cancer. He also specialized in treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and performing urinary diversion surgery.

    In addition to the broad range of standard urologic procedures, Dr. Schmidt is certified to perform extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) for stones in the urinary tract, as well as ultrasound-guided transperineal high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy for early-stage prostate cancer.

    In recognition of Dr. Schmidt's many contributions to the field of urology, the Western Section of the American Urological Association named him the "Distinguished Member for 2007."

    Dr. Schmidt is certified by the American Board of Urology.
