      BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Jason Lavender is an Assistant Research Scientist in the UCSD Department of Psychiatry and a member of the research team at the UCSD Eating Disorders Center for Treatment and Research. He completed his undergraduate education at Duke University, where he received a B.S. in psychology in 2005. He received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University at Albany, State University of New York in 2011, following completion of his predoctoral clinical internship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center from 2010-2011. He then completed a T32 postdoctoral fellowship in eating disorders research at the Neuropsychiatric Research Institute from 2011-2014, where he subsequently joined the faculty. He relocated to UCSD in 2016.

      RESEARCH INTERESTS

Dr. Lavender’s research broadly focuses on elucidating risk factors and maintenance mechanisms for eating disorder psychopathology, particularly emotion and emotion dysregulation, personality and temperament, and neurocognitive functioning. His interests also include multi-method approaches to study design, with an emphasis on linking laboratory-based methodologies with naturalistic, real-time data collection (i.e., ecological momentary assessment). He is currently completing a K23 research career development award from the National Institute of Mental Health that focuses on training and research in the areas of affective functioning, neurocognition, neurobiology, and functional neuroimaging in eating disorders. This research is specifically focused on identifying the independent and interactive associations between affective and neurocognitive dimensions in relation to eating disorder symptoms across the eating disorder spectrum, as well as examining neural mechanisms associated with inhibitory control and emotion processing in anorexia nervosa.
