    Dr. Charles "Chuck" O’Connell was born and raised in central Pennsylvania. After attending Bucknell University, he matriculated into medical school at Penn State College of Medicine and graduated with Honors in 2009. He was awarded the ACEP Medical Student Professionalism and Service Award. He departed the East Coast to complete emergency medicine residency at UCSD, where he served as chief resident. Dr. O'Connell was voted UCSD Emergency Resident of the Year in 2013. He is currently completing a Toxicology Fellowship at UCSD but remains very active within the emergency department. His academic interests include teaching, evidence-based medicine, medical toxicology, envenomations, and new drugs of abuse. Hobbies include basketball, golf, hiking, camping, backpacking, spending time with his fiancé, family and friends, and is a well-known sports and college football enthusiast.
