    Biography

    Dr. Soliman holds leadership positions at both UC San Diego Health Sciences and the Department of Psychiatry. As the Assistant Vice Chancellor and Executive Director of Health Sciences International - he provides the overall leadership for the strategic planning and development of the international programs for the school of medicine, school of pharmacy and pharmaceutical science, healthcare system and integrative research.

    Dr. Soliman is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and a member of the Department of Psychiatry Chair’s Cabinet for Strategy and Business Development. He also serves as Medical Director for the Psychopharmacology Research Initiatives Center of Excellence (PRICE). His clinical and research focus primarily on treatment-resistant mood disorders and the application of non-psychopharmacological treatment approaches using Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).

    Previously, Dr. Soliman served as Chief of Clinical Services for the Department of Psychiatry, where he provided both clinical and administrative leadership for the inpatient, outpatient and specialty programs. Dr. Soliman is known for his work in developing elite health programs tailored to professionals and executives. These programs have been featured in Forbes Magazine, the San Diego Business Journal, Men’s Health, Best Life magazine and the San Diego Union Tribune.

    Dr. Soliman is a member of the UC San Diego Medical Board of Governors and the UC San Diego Professional Standards Committee. He is also a member of the Steering Committee for Global Health Initiatives and serves on the Springboard Panel for The CONNECT Program. Nationally, he serves as an external reviewer for the AAMC Medical Education and as a Consultant to the Council on International Psychiatry for American Psychiatric Association.

    Dr. Soliman joined the UC San Diego faculty in 1998, after completing his postgraduate training in Psychiatry at the UC San Diego. In addition to his medical degree, he also holds a Master of Business Administration in Health Care from the Paul Merage School of Business at UC Irvine.

    Research Interests

    Dr. Soliman is focused on a variety of research projects, mainly clinical psychopharmacology for schizophrenia and mood disorder. He serves as the primary PI on several clinical trials.

    Clinical Focus

    Dr. Soliman’s practice is dedicated to the underserved population at the Community Research Foundation and direct patient care at the VA and UCSD outpatient. He is also the medical consultant for the UCSD Physician Assessment and Clinical Education (PACE).
